Based off of the OP's description of the incident, I'm 100% convinced that the culprit was a parched Sasquach roaming about. Bigfeet commonly enjoy consuming water from rivers or springs, but often times when they are driven away from their natural habitat they may resort to drinking from swimming pools or various other sources of water.
