A few years ago my cousin went to the ER in Hannibal when she developed serious abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with colitis. Over the following months none of the treatments or medications did anything to improve her situation, and her pain level was constant and grew intolerable. They told her that she'd need to have her colon removed. Then she went back to the ER over the pain one night, and at that point was correctly diagnosed with have a ruptured appendix. A RUPTURED ****ING APPENDIX. After it was removed, the pain went away completely. There was nothing wrong with her colon at all.
Through one of the attorneys in my office, I got her in touch with one of the leading medical malpractice attorneys in Missouri, who told her that because of the way the laws are set up, she had no case to sue them for the hell she went through because she ended up suffering no permanent damage.
I shit you not.
Beware of small town hospitals and the doctors who work there.
