You can't possibly know that with any degree of certainty at all.
It appears that <2% of cases are in the severe-critical range. If the virus was just ramping up and there were only 100,000 people infected at that point, you should only see around 2000 in hospitals. I have no clue what the real numbers are/were but that's the point, no one does. We probably won't even have a clue on those until a year or two from now.
