If the virus was just ramping up and there were only 100,000 people infected at that point, you should only see around 2000 in hospitals. I don't know how you or anyone knows that when we refuse to test our general population who are not showing symptoms. We really have no idea how many ppl have it and are asymptomatic or symptomatic.
All we know is the rates of those tested. When we know a certain portion of the infected show no symptoms at all this is something we need to be doing, at least in a small controlled environment.
