I'm not sure how far I'd go with the 'it isn't a choice just genes' but I definitely believe certain people are prone to obesity just like some are to addiction due to their genes.

I was 193 lbs at 6’0” and considered overweight by BMI standards i don't even want to know what i am considered at 220 lol, i was playing up to 100 hockey games a year and could not lose weight, my diet isn't bad but not optimal , so i changed that then did p90x lost 20lbs and the got injured gained it back lose it again , reinjured etc..
metabolism really slows down with age and injuries start piling up (c8 neuropathy, 2 major head injuries, shoulder impingement, bulging disks in neck and back, auto immune arthritis, chronic achilles tendinitis, tennis elbow) seriously limiting what i can do. finding the time with kids also makes it hard my kids skate 7-8 times week combined and play other sports.
