One thing to consider when factoring in world mortality is the near certainty that this is being massively undercounted in the developing world.
Ecuador's COVID mortality is likely being undercounted by a factor of 15. As of Friday, they had 503 reported deaths, yet mortality for the period of reporting was 7600 deaths higher than the previous year, and the baseline mortality rate was three times higher than normal, eight times higher than normal in the capital, and people were being buried in coffins made of cardboard.
