My feeling on the matter is that, as others have mentioned, the refs are given two weeks to prepare for this game and as such broke these teams down and over-emphasized.
Surely they saw how KC was playing coverage in the playoffs and either the Bucs or the NFL made a deal about it. Probably both. So instead of the "let them play" like we saw in the playoffs, they were LOOKING to throw the flags in the SB.
Once halftime rolled around they likely got the call to let them play. But by then the entire flow of the game was ****ed.
Either way, im convinced that the refs completely intended to neuter our secondary, likely thinking it would lead to a more competitive game.
