Being it’s only a 1 year deal, losing him to next years free agency also provides the possibility of another comp pick the following draft, as well.

The Chiefs have no chance to get a comp pick outside of maybe a 7th after signing Thuney so all of this is irrelevant and has little to do with their decision.
