I think I would vote for making all numbers available again. As mentioned already, there are many different ways to memorialize those numbers.
Over time, it might be cool having a big display of outstanding players per jersey number. They have some cool stuff on display on the Chiefs side of the field. Having a big grid of jersey numbers with a listing of players underneath each would be sweet. They could bold, italicize, or put an asterisk by the more significant players. The truly great ones could get statues out front.
I would offer the location of my brick to be sacrificed. It would be a sweet spot for a DT statue, AND it would strike my ex-wife's name completely from the ledger. Win/Win in my book.
