Dear Mrs Edwards,
I regret to inform you your husband was shot down in raid over XXXXXXX. But through his heroic actions all of the crew of the Commando Chief Managed to survive bailing out. Because of his Brave actions, I have recommended him for the silver star.
We have received word from Red Cross that he is now a POW. All information indicates that he is in good health and spirits, and god willing this war will be over shortly so he might return to you.
