They make a version with quarter pound patties
My personal theory is that the burger patties aren't smaller or drier than they used to be, but the bread is more dense. My usual order is a McDouble or two, and even with 2 patties on each they feel like eating half a loaf of dry bread.
They can also be stingy with the condiments at times which doesn't help.
