We don't need to "cut" a lot of people, just don't re-sign them. Here's a list of our FAs. Let's take a look at what holes we would have to fill before we start throwing money out there:
Blake Bell, tight end
Austin Blythe, offensive line
Orlando Brown Jr., offensive tackle
Michael Burton, fullback
Chad Henne, quarterback
Mike Hughes, cornerback
Melvin Ingram, pass rusher
Kyle Long, offensive line
Tyrann Mathieu, safety
Jerick McKinnon, running back
Ben Niemann, linebacker
Derrick Nnadi, defensive line
Dorian O’Daniel, linebacker
Alex Okafor, defensive end
Byron Pringle, wide receiver
Jarran Reed, defensive tackle
Mike Remmers, offensive line
Demarcus Robinson, wide receiver
Daniel Sorensen, safety
Charvarius Ward, cornerback
Armani Watts, safety
Darrel Williams, running back
Andrew Wylie, offensive line
Jody Fortson, tight end (ERFA)
Derrick Gore, running back (ERFA)
Marcus Kemp, wide receiver (RFA)
Chris Lammons, cornerback (ERFA)
I'd like to keep Bell, Burton, McKinnon, Okafor, Remmers, Ward, Fortson, Gore, and Hughes. If Brown will take less than top dollar money, keep him. Same for Ward and Ingram. Blythe, Nnadi, Pringle, and Niemann provide depth at a pretty cheap price. Sorenson and Long probably call it a career. Mathieu is going to dictate his own future. I'm opposed to giving him top dollar and a long term contract. No doubt our secondary looks like a bunch of Keystone Cops without him directing traffic, he's no spring chicken and he disappears at times. The rest are sub-JAGs and can kick rocks. We have to get rid of Clark and Hitchens.
