When the Rooney was first introduced the excuse about not having enough minority head coaches was that to be a head coach you had to have experience as a DC or OC. Then there was a slow trend to promoting minorities to those positions.
Now the excuse/trend (use whichever word you want) is, well you have to a QB coach to be a head coach. The problem is that there were maybe 2 black QB coaches in the league last year - Indy and Miami. I assume Caldwell is out in Miami, leaving on Brady.
So, the current pipeline following the latest trend (and the NFL is a copycat league) doesn't look promising for future minority head coaching candidates.
