That's a 'do you know how the real world works' moment. Yes, if someone knows someone it makes a difference, and that's not bias. That's people processing information. Back channels usually work for a candidate but can also work against them if they have a bad relationship with someone.

The biggest WTF for me is why Belichick is involved in, or at least knowledgeable of, the coaching search of another team.
