Granted, I don't read the books/comic books/whatever, but I just have a really hard time believing they can fill this show with enough content without making it just seem ridiculous.
Kenobi basically spent 18 years hiding in the ****ing desert on a sparsely populated planet at the ass end of the galaxy. His sole purpose in life is to safeguard Luke. This means he can't leave the general area where Luke lives, or do much of anything to draw attention to himself; otherwise he'll risk get discovered by the empire. And since it's established canon that he wasn't, well.... outside of aging into Alec Guinness, it just seems like there's not much for him to do. Anybody who sees him wield the lightsaber will either have to be whacked or sworn to secrecy. If he's constantly ducking bounty hunters or wandering around helping people like a one man A-Team, that would just be dumb.
