If there were any chance of retaining EB, why would they direct you to share this internal strife?
And why would they want you to share that one of the players was close to demanding a trade?
Please explain their logic because it seems your general narrative and posts lack of a sort of internal consistency.

Good point.
And it simply doesn't make sense to give a shit about 'optics' for a guy who isn't under contract. Reid is 63, it's not like he's going to suddenly gain a reputation or other coaches may be weary of going to the Chiefs because they don't resign their OC who most likely hasn't had a ton of control over the offense anyway.
I can't think of any negative repercussions of letting the guy go beyond EB not being able to find a new job... and that's not the Chiefs' problem at all.
I'm sure that kind of locker room drama happens fairly often, and teams are split between players who like and dislike a coach or whatever.... and if it's serious enough, then it makes sense to let things cool down. Seems like a fairly common thing that would happen after tough playoff losses across the league and if all that really happened, it's good to know they aren't prone to knee jerk reactions.
