1. He doesn't go to FA where said team will have to bid for his services.
2. His contract becomes non-guaranteed at the time of the trade. $20 million each year in base salary for the next three years.
3. You can rework his deal if you wanted to do that. Or you could see how it goes for a year and then cut him if he isn't working out. It's not like Cooper would sit because he's still getting paid $20 million a season.
