I do think it's fair to point out that better prospects than Thibodeaux have been undone by desire issues. And I have always felt that DL prospects are especially prone to being undercut by them if/when they exist.

That said, Thibs would likely be used in a 'flashier' role here so I'm less concerned by it than I would be by someone we intended to use as more of an SDE or IDL. I think we'd essentially treat him like we treated Hali and Ford - see QB, hit QB. And that may paper over some of those issues even if they are legit. Getting those sacks may be enough to keep him running hot early in his career and then you hope he matures into someone who's motivation goes beyond his own numbers. Jared Allen was a great example of that sort of thing.

Honestly, I'm in no position to weigh in either way. It's beyond any of our pay grades. But I'm also not one to hand waive those concerns either - they really can ruin a talented player. The margin between success and failure in this league is just so razor thin that someone who isn't getting the most out of his ability can easily just fade away.

This is going to seem like a lazy comparison because they both played DE for Oregon, but I promise I had forgotten this guy was a Duck before I looked him up. Dion Jordan is a really good example of someone who had all the talent in the world and simply didn't give enough ****s to make himself matter. He loafed for a couple years, smoked himself out of the league, then got his head screwed on a bit but had lost too much talent to time and apathy before just fading away.

You've gotta give a **** or you won't make it at this level.
