Brady took less for years, and the Patriots constantly let dudes walk away in FA. Mahomes isn’t stupid and knows that the less he takes from the team does not mean the team will keep all of its players always or that every key part of the team up for a new contract won’t want the highest number.

The Jones contract does not look so great these days. KC will be in better financial shape when both Jones & Clark are gone.
I'm personally hoping the loss of Tyreek will force Mahomes to look for other receivers. He doesn't have a choice now. Hopefully he will embrace the idea of spreading the ball around to a lot of different people. This approach has potential to create way more balance in the offense.
