In any case, this call out of Everett and doing everything within one's power to say, "Nononono it's not Herbert's fault!" is stupid. It's like how everybody yelled and screamed at Darrell Bevell when Russell Wilson threw the goal line INT in that Patriots Super Bowl.
Don't like the play call? That's fair. But Darrell Bevell didn't call "Russ, throw a pick to Malcolm Butler." He called the play he called.
Herbert still made the decision to throw to Everett. And go along with the no huddle. It's more than partly his fault. He gets at LEAST half of the blame.

I've seen great quarterbacks pull that ball back/down dozens of times. Montana was the master at it - if someone slipped on a route or something he wouldn't just throw a YOLO ball out there anyway. He'd pull the ball down and re-set or throw it away.
They were running quick tempo and it sped Herbert's clock up. It got him amped and had him throwing without looking. Was there some tough luck involved? I mean - I guess. But ultimately he's the final triggerman and the blame should rest with him.
Mahomes would've taken so much hell for being 'reckless' with the football there but folks will bend over backwards to absolve Herbert.
