the covid shot isn't like other shots like an MMR where it grants immunity, the covid shot just makes you less likely to contract it and less likely to get a severe case
also the flu shot they kind of have to guess what flu variant will be the most prevalent in a given flu season, so the flu shot will vary in effectiveness, if the flu shot has the wrong variant for what ends up being the strain that is prevalent in the US it's not very effective. so yeah your experience isn't at all out of the ordinary
