The Oct. 31 death of former Vikings assistant coach Adam Zimmer was caused by chronic alcohol use, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office announced Friday.

Zimmer was the son of former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and an assistant for the team from 2014-21, the last two seasons as co-defensive coordinator. He was 38. He was found dead at his Mendota Heights home while working remotely as an offensive analyst for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The medical examiner’s office listed the cause of death as “complications of chronic ethanol use disorder.” It was called “natural.”
