I'm certainly no doctor, but I think it's a bit different here. It sounds like Damar suffered Commotio cordis, which results in cardiac arrest, and not a heart attack. Those two are actually very different in nature. Heart attacks are brought on by circulatory issues that have worsened over time. Cardiac arrest in an electrical signaling issue and develops suddenly.

I've known people that have had heart attacks, had a bypass and yet still didn't change their eating/exercise habits. That is probably responsible for at least part of that 1:5 ratio you speak of.
