The plane tilts giddily, but straightens up as htismaqe and bwana fight to right it. “What the heck happened?” htismaqe calls out over the intercom. “Did we lose an engine?” calls up ball turret gunner Extremechief. “There’s an engine falling away from us.”

KC Dan looks to his right. The outboard port section of the horizontal tail has been sheared off. “I think a falling engine hit us,” he reports, and describes the damage. It’s not fatal, so Flyin’ Doublewide continues on its way, the crew shaking their heads at the near miss.
