Overall, I would be a bit concerned with this draft, if I'm being honest about it. That said there are some spots I think you'd have some incredible wins. My comments below.
RD 1 - DT Bryan Breese, Clemson 6-5 310 lbs
I see Breese slipping too, but not to 31. He's still a good player when he's been on the field. I think he goes somewhere in the early 20's. I think the top-10 talk is overstating his ability and his value. I would not be disappointed if he ended up there to us but I'd call it wishful thinking.
RD 2 - DE Zach Harrison, Ohio State, 6-6 285 lbs
Harrison has been a classic underachiever and a large part of that is that he's an extremely linear athlete despite some eye-popping "traits." His lateral agility and bend leave something to be desired. When he wins, it's largely with power and hand usage. He's a guy that I think can be a nice piece for an NFL team, even a starting SDE. What he is not is the bendy, twitchy, WDE that the Chiefs need opposite Karlaftis. He's a guy that if he fell to the 3rd, I'd strongly consider him as a rotational piece. I just don't think he falls that far, and I think the team that gets him early might be a bit disappointed.
RD 3 - [Traded 3rd + 6th = ARZ] WR Deadre Hopkins, ARZ, 6-1 212 lbs
You already know how I feel about this. I think Hopkins is starting that decline versus his salary. I would not do this.
RD 3 - RT Zion Nelson 6-5 315 lbs, 0-Sacks in 2022
I really like Zion as a developmental LT. He's the type of guy I'd absolutely target at this point if the Chiefs simply tag OBj again. That said, I worry about projections to RT from LT without seeing how that player performs in that transition. Case-in-point for this year for me has been Jaelyn Duncan. He played LT his entire career and they tried to work him in at RT at the Senior Bowl to somewhat disastrous results. I think back to Eric Fisher when he was drafted too and that worked out terribly. So, until I can see it, I can't get on board with it. Now, put Wanya Morris here and I'm 100% on board.
RD 4 - WR Anrei Iosivas, Princeton, 6-3 215lbs, 4.2 40, 943 yrds in 2022
Here's what I can say for sure, Iosivas doens't run a 4.2 in pads. In fact, I'd put him in the 4.45 to 4.50 range. He simply does not display track speed. Corners hung with him easily in the Ivy League. Call me not as impressed as some. I'm not against drafting him, especially here, I'd just temper my expectations that he's going to be an NFL deep threat. I don't think he is.
RD 4 - DL Yaya Diaby 6-4 265 lbs, 20.8+ MPH, 8.1 inch Wingspan, 9 Sacks
I really like Diaby the same way I like Zach Harrison. My concern with Diaby is that so many of his wins in the pass rush department came from the interior. I think he's a nice day 3 rotational player, but I would probably have him in the 5th.
RD 5 - DE Thomas Incoom, Central Michigan, 6-4 265 lbs, 11.5 Sacks
I said in my opinion of him elsewhere that I felt like I was watching Matt Judon all over again when Judon came out and I still feel that way. I think Incoom is going to be one of those guys who far exceeds his draft stock. He's got some bend, he's got some speed, he makes a lot of plays, and he did pretty well for himself during the Senior Bowl week. I'm not sure where he'll end up but I'd be most comfortable in the 4th round, maybe even the end of the 3rd.
RD 6 - [Traded to AZ]
RD 6 - WR Jake Bobo, UCLA, 6-5 215 lbs, 817 yards in 2022
I can't be disappointed with a WR like Bobo this late but he's a convincingly difficult evaluation. UCLA used him like a split tight end a lot and that's what makes it so tough. If he were a little heavier, I'd lobby for his conversion to TE. He's definitely not quick or fast and he runs like a 4.70 tight end. He finds holes in zones and makes some tough grabs over the middle. He's just not a guy like a Mike Williams to me, where he has enough athleticism to be an NFL WR. I just don't think he's that guy. I'd still consider him a TE conversion project in the mold of Jody Fortson.
RD 7 - OT Luke Haggard, Indiana, 6’7 305
You know my love for Haggard so I can't fathom him dropping to the 7th round. After much thought, I'd say 5th round is likely where his floor is. He's at least a Josh Ball type as a potential reserve tackle in the NFL and he went in the 4th round with a pretty shady history.
RD 7 - HB Hunter Luepke, North Dakota State, 6-0, 235 lbs, 13 TDS in 2022
This draft is loaded with talent at RB so I have a bit of a difficult time championing a /FB type of pick. I see more value with a player like him than with any FB Reid has employed of late though, so you have that going for you. As a 7th rounder, I wouldn't complain in real time.
RD 7 - S Jason Taylor ll, OSU, 6-0, 208 lbs 4.5 Speed, 6 INTs & QB Rating of 54.7% when targeted 2022
The knocks on Taylor are legit, missed tackles and being a grabby defender, so despite showing some other really good traits he's going to naturally slide down draft boards. He has quickness, speed, size, and ball skills. Someone will take the chance to coach him up on the other stuff. I'd venture the 6th round seems like a logical spot for him to go.
