The very FIRST MLB baseball game I ever saw in my life, June 26 1971, featured Tim McCarver playing catcher for the Phillies at Veterans Stadium against my Pittsburgh Pirates. I had just turned 8 years old earlier in the month. My neighbor's father took me and his son. They were Phillies fans.

He hit a homerun as well as Bill Mazeroski and two by Bob Robertson of the Pirates. I got to see Dock Ellis pitch and Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell. Epic moment in my life. The Pirates won the World Series that year.

R.I.P. to a great ambassador of baseball and a wonderful announcer.

Here is the boxscore.
