So put the transition tag on him.
This takes a tag/trade off the table (which is what I figure they'd do if he says he won't play on the tag).
This one surprises me quite a bit. Maybe it's just as simple as Veach's bluff getting called. The team doesn't think he's worth $20 million, they used it as a pressure point in trying to get a LTC inked, it didn't work so they are walking away.
Damn that's risky.
