But if you cut bait, all those stacked pro-rated option bonuses hit your cap. A nd the way they've structured them, most of the bonuses trigger a year BEFORE they're actually due. And it's a ladder format so the number you have to walk away from the year prior is wholly prohibitive.
"Some dead cap hits in 2027 and 2028" may be a quarter of their cap.
It looks to me more like they expect to extend him in 2028 in a way that absorbs those pro-rated bonus figures and kicks the can another 3-4 years.
But that's gonna be tougher sledding than they expect, IMO, because Hurts and his agents will have them by the short-hairs.
