That's one way of looking at it, but the fact that Smart often took those shots/more shots than he should (and he did take a lot of stupid shots) also may reflect the inherent lack of leadership of Tatum/Brown.
I also think it could be argued Smart's intangibles mattered far more to that team than anything he was actually doing on the court. I'd be worried about where that is going to come from now on a team that already was struggling in that regard. That team was soft as hell as it was.
