On a board, he drew up six plays and two or three pass‑protection schemes; then he showed Mahomes video of some blitz packages and offered audible calls that would allow him to switch the protection, depending on the look. Just two hours later, Mahomes was out on the field, and Arians blurted out a protection‑and‑blitz package. “Rightie! Rightie!” Mahomes said, fixing the protection. “Holy cow,” Arians thought.
