So, for the next umpteen years, media pundits will compare that person to Patrick Mahomes. Why? Because Mahomes is the best. He does things no other quarterback ever has.

I recognize the progress of history. Eventually there will be a QB who posts better records and is worthy of comparison. Right now that's hard to believe but its inevitable. But the time to make that decision is after the person has been in the league for a few years, is in 100% of the conference championship games during his career, has fewer than 2 losses by more than 1 TD, etc. Until that time comes, though, I can make this real simple: the answer to the following question:

"Is [fill in hot new college QB] the next Patrick Mahomes?"

will be 'NO'.
