If Chiefs only offered what the chiefsplanet consensus said, a few dollars more than Quinnen Williams, that would not look good to the players, especially if Nick Bosa matches or passes Aaron Donald as highest paid defensive player.
Jones should play out his current deal and get an insurance policy. Missing games and gamechecks is unwise, and if he is not satisfied with the extension offer, show up and play your best and be a free agent next year or get franchise tag of $32.5 million and expect a trade to a team willing to do a long term deal.

You are flat out missing the fact that they both play at a more premium position regarding salaries, both are DPOYs, and both are younger than Jones. Watt when healthy
averages more sacks than Jones has ever had in a season.
