I recall the 2017 draft when Chicago wanted Trubisky so badly that they traded up from #3 overall to #2 overall. It only cost them the #3, #67, and #111 overall picks. That was to move up 1 spot.
What a horrible trade that was, but Trubisky was talked about as a great QB for whoever was going to take him.
Now we're looking at another QB that people are talking about as a world-beater. It's funny that some of the greatest QBs we've seen in the last 20 years weren't really seen as can't-miss guys coming out of college. A lot of those can't-miss guys missed.
Then we look at Denver's recent history with trading draft picks. They traded all those picks and players to Seattle and what do they have to show for it? Then they traded those picks to New Orleans to get the coach. That's not looking so hot right now either. Finally, even if they do make a splash trade to move up to the #1 overall pick and the can't-miss QB really is a great QB, they've still got the cap hits coming for dumping Wilson. A really good front office could find some imaginary ways to work with that hanging around the neck of the franchise, but Denver's front office has been terrible for years. Paton has looked completely incompetent, so how are they going to put a team around the QB of the future?
Part of me wants to see Denver in the position to make that trade to move up to #1 overall just so I can watch more of this continuous slow-motion train wreck.
