I think it was Ngannou was just literally way better than anyone gave him credit for being. Boxing was his first love, it's what he trained in first, and the MMA thing was an easier road for him to get into where he was training at in France. Fury was definitely underwhelming for his normal self, but the story was how good Francis actually was in there.
