My favorite place when I visit Vietnam is Phu Quoc. It’s beautiful but I wouldn’t live there full time. You’ll definitely get island fever unless all you want to do is drink and sit on the beach.

I’m also a really big fan of the Thai islands Koh Samui, Koh Phagnan and Khrabi. But wouldn’t live there full time for the same reasons as above.

I don’t really like the big cities in either country as the infrastructure isn’t great so it seems like a mess that’s ready to ignite at any moment. I don’t do well in chaotic environments while surrounded by people.

As someone else said Philippines is a solid choice for retirement. The people are friendly, the food is great, the dollar is strong, the infrastructure of the bigger cities is stronger than the other two countries above and most of the locals speak English in the bigger cities. They have world class medical facilities. Guam is a only a short flight away if for any reason you need to quickly get back to American soil.

You can always hop around Asia for extremely cheap if you book your flights while you’re in Asia so just visit all over SE Asia until you find place that makes you want to call home or fall in love w a pretty girl.
