It's not necessarily a gift for kids, but I bought myself something cool this weekend as a pre-Christmas gift. I got myself an Ecoflow Delta 2 solar generator and solar panel:

(I upgraded the solar panel to the 400W version since I see no reason not to get max power out of it.)
I live in a big city and I've lost power for more than an hour only once in 30 years of living here, but I've always wanted some sort of backup, and my house isn't a good candidate for built-in solar panels. I'll charge this baby up, and when the Chinese or solar flares or heavy snows knock out all of our electrical infrastructure, I can still charge my phone and refrigerator by setting the solar panel up on my balcony. I'm going to be sleeping easier from now on.
