I think people need to come to grips with the probable bloodbath that comes from about picks 18 through 29. We're gonna have a lot of guys we like that come off the board.

We may be looking at a situation where the best in the respective groups are something like:

OT: Amegadjie, Fisher, Paul
WR: McConkey, Wilson, Pearsall, Worthy, Walker, McMillan
DL: Fiske, Jenkins, Orhorhoro, Dorlus, Sweat
CB: Sainstristil, Rakestraw, Lassiter

Shit man, at that point there IS no perfect answer. You have a dozen guys who you'd like to get at 50 and may not get at 64.

So if that happens, what's so bad about saying "Well shit, Worthy is greased lightning and that can be used immediately in this offense even if it takes him time to learn the full route tree...."

Nobody is saying trade up to 18 to make sure we can get someone like Worthy or Burton. They're saying that the board could well fall apart on us by the time we're up and in that event, if you're looking at 20 similarly situated prospects, why NOT put speed at the top of the traits you'd be looking for?

Would I rather have fast and smaller (Worthy) or slower and bigger (Let's say Coleman for the sake of reasonable discussion) -- gimme Worthy. A guy like Johnny Wilson isn't on my board at all because of that same thinking.

"Spending a 1" on speed may just end up being a necessary evil if it turns out that there's just not a ton left for us at 32. And if your answer is "We'll I'd rather trade a little speed for a little more size - I prefer 'Tez Walker..." well fine man, ain't anybody gonna argue that point. Because Walker's plenty fast in his own right and has better size than Worthy. There's plenty of room for reasoned disagreement there.

But if you're sitting there at 32 with the board I laid out, there's one guy on that board with a truly elite trait anywhere and it's Worthy's record speed. And if we took him at 1, I'd fully expect you to hate it.

Why? Well...I do not know. It's completely defensible to focus on finding an elite trait in the event you can't get a true blue chipper.

And yes, Walker would likely be my call there or trade back.
