I saw them, Grand Canyon, win their first two NAIA championships in KC back in the day at Kemper. My team, in the 70's, Washburn, just couldn't get past Marymount (Salina) or Kearney St (Neb) to get a bid.
Those NAIA battles between Washburn, Rockhurst, St Benedict's (now Benedictine) were great fun. The old Great Plains Athletic Conference. Then to the CSIC. I spent many a Saturday night watching my favorite players in Whiting Fieldhouse. Harold Brown, Allan Joy, Joe Luebke. Got to play with them and against them at summer camps.
They made it to the quarters a few times but would get knocked out on like a Wednesday afternoon game. I'd have a transistor radio with an earpiece to listen at recess.
