There is a bigger picture beyond the pictures. Rice is represented by a powerful member of the Texas legislature. He also appears to be backed by one of the richest families in the country. He was involved in an accident with rather minor consequences.

There will be political pressure put on the DA to go easy on this case and there will be no political pressure whatsoever to pursue it. Prosecuting these guys will not be any kind of priority for the DA's office and going easy on the culprits will result in some political capital for that individual who almost certainly has his/her sights set on higher office.

This case may or may not be dropped, but it will never see the inside of a courtroom barring some new extraordinary evidence coming to light. I expect a plea-bargain down to lesser charges that will result in no jail time. If there is a NFL suspension, it will be no more than 2 games.
