All the Jackson County residents who voted against this seemed to believe that it would mean the Royals would stay at the K and that they would get a chance to vote Yes on a “better proposal.”
Naivety.
Or, they complained about the deal the teams were getting (any public money = bad) while ignoring how much the 1% earnings tax brings in on game checks alone.
The teams did a shitty job of making the latter point, as did the city, and White’s vendetta against the Royals was a factor too.
The City and State might be able to pull something out yet, but the teams will get rosier deals because there’s competition now.
