Questions in press conferences aren't really designed to get answers - they're designed to get the players to respond.
He knows that the bench probably didn't play a great game and so they needed greater bench contributions to win it. The question is designed to get one of the starters to discuss it.
They're invitations for dialogue - they're not cross examinations.
As far as the question goes - it's fine. It's a reasonable question designed to get a response from a 'star' player that could've offered some sort of dialogue on the subject.
What it got was a pissy little shit fit.
"The bench has been great for us this year; it's hard asking these players to come off the bench and be locked in every night. Some nights they just won't be and after playing a great game last time out, shots just weren't falling tonight. The energy was there and we need them to keep bringing that energy. The shots will fall..."
Done. Supports her teammates, reporter has a quote, the world keeps spinning.
Instead she threw a temper tantrum.
