He's a terrible hitter in the sense that he hits too many ground balls and not enough barrels and hard contact in the air.
But he does have 16.3% contact rate. That's well above-average. He can put the bat on the ball in an era where pitching is dominant and only a handful of hitters are truly succeeding. At age 24, he's far from a lost cause.
