While we have done a few things different than the previous regime, the one frustrating aspect of the Royals that has remained is their total bias towards some players and against others. We trade for Brent Rooker and we play him for only 29 at bats on an awful team and apparently decide he isn't worth keeping. He goes to the As and is a very useful player. We send a comp pick to the Braves for Drew Waters and decide after less than a full season of PAs that he just sucks and has no business playing here even though he's still only 25.
Meanwhile we will give 1500 PAs to Melendez who has hit a career .215, and despite people complaining, I'm 99% sure Garcia will be here next year playing every day despite being a black hole on offense with no power. Hampson and Frazier have been awful this year and yet they still play over the guy we traded for at the trade deadline. I guess Nick Loftin's career with the Royals is largely over after his demotion. If they won't play you over those two guys then you are obviously out of favor with the organization and you won't be coming back. Poor CJ Alexander got 8 PAs and that was his whole career with us despite a 956 OPS in AAA. How can he not get at bats over Frazier and hampson and Garcia? Why is he even in the organization if hitting 950 OPS can't earn you playing time over a guy hitting 500 OPS?
These are decisions that the Royals always seem so stubborn and inflexible about. Unfortunately for Gentry I think he's on the black list of guys who they don't believe in, as he's 24 and it seems like if they aren't forcing you into the club by then like Garcia and Melendez then you aren't going to get much of a shot. Unfortunately I don't see this changing much as much as it might help us.
