As far as I can recall, he's always been more of an OLB in odd fronts. I think he has the tools to be a 4-3 DE, but he's never been asked to do it.
Melvin Ingram made that transition pretty well but he did it well before he got to KC. He did that in his last couple years with the Chargers. And he was a pretty similarly built/skilled player.
It's not impossible but it's definitely a risk. I'd sure have preferred he learn that sort of thing on someone else's dime.
