I have bumped into a lot of "celebrities" doing SF/F conventions. 99% of them have been cool and the others were just brusque - not obnoxious, but usually in a hurry or their minders have been the obnoxious ones. Probably worst encounter was with George Takai, but again, it was his handler who was the unpleasant one.
One of my best encounters was with Ron Glass. I was at a show and spotted him going toward a panel, surrounded by Firefly fans. As we passed, I slowed down just a moment and asked, "So, how are the royalties on 'Blood on the Badge' these days?" (A Barney Miller reference) and just kept on walking.
All of a sudden I heard a "Hey, stop." I turned around and he was walking back toward me. "Walk with me, if you don't mind." So I fell in beside him and he told me a bunch of Barney Miller stories as we went to the panel and hung out until it was time for him to go on stage. He told me he was SO happy not to have to talk about Firefly for a bit, even though he knew that was why cons were inviting him.
Let me just say, there were a lot of Browncoats unhappy with me monopolizing their idol's time. Some fandoms are just downright scary.
