I was looking up guys that I might have forgotten about and came up with this dirty player from the 70's. I was too young to remember him, but that shouldn't exclude him. So I nominate Conrad Dobler


The offensive guard Conrad Dobler was a mean and maniacally-dirty player who made three straight Pro Bowls in the 1970s. On its cover, Sports Illustrated in 1977 pronounced Dobler “pro football’s dirtiest player” – a designation that Dobler relished. “If I’m dirty, so be it,” he once said, “If I’m mean, so be that too.” Dobler, who had long hair and a horseshoe mustache, gouged opponents’ eyes, bit players, spit in their faces, stepped on hands and punched them in the solar plexus. Born on October 1, 1950, the 6-foot-3, 254-pound Dobler was a fifth round draft pick in 1972 out of Wyoming. What he lacked in athleticism he compensated for in grit, physicality, and unpredictable behavior to psych out his opponents. Wearing No. 66, he played 10 years in the NFL, six with the Cardinals, and he wasn’t regretful of his style. “Some guys got vasectomies; I used to give ‘em,” he said with a laugh.
