Had one done last fall. It's actually a pretty quick and easy surgery once you get past the idea of somebody cutting and peeling away the top layer of your eyeball to replace the lens. While you're semi-awake and listening to the entire procedure. It took around 24 hours of recovery time wearing an eye patch, and my vision was just as good as before the cataract symptoms. Haven't noticed any issues since.
Before surgery, when looking through my red dot gun optics I was seeing a funky crescent moon shaped starburst pattern instead of a defined dot. Driving at night caused lots of glare. After surgery, I see a perfect dot again. Night driving is no issue anymore. I'm glad I had it done. I'm a bit younger though, so I'm not sure how much age is a factor. I got my cataract early in life as a result of an injury I had as a teen poking my eye with an icepick.
