It’s the 2001 space odyssey effect. Every so often we find an artifact that changes everything a lot. But humans learn to adapt. There’s a lot to be worried about with AI. But we had a lot of those same concerns with the internet.

My personal observation is that it will take a while for this to automate people away. On the manufacturing side we will continue to need people to build the tech and the robots and how this all work logistically. And we will need lots and lots of people to guide the AI. Meanwhile lots of business will roll this out carefully with data privacy and governance being a significant concern. And the majority of the workforce will take many years to be upskilled. So for the short term there will be lots of people working on adoption of the tech which will buy time for the world to adapt to figure out what the future of work is. I think the biggest concern will be making sure the work you do today can’t easily br automated away. If it can be, then there’s still plenty of opportunity to adapt what you do. If you are a technical writer for example, there is still a massive need for creatives who can help AI produce much better written content. And I don’t think that will go away for a while.
