Gotta spend cap money somewhere. If you’re rebuilding in hopes of contending 2 years later, then you sign a guy who was a top 5 corner that season. And hope in 2 years when you think your window should open you’ve still got a top corner in his prime, and by then you’re likely paying him a below market wage unless the contract is heavily back loaded.
But the knee history, and Titans don’t have a Spags, or Merritt who are arguably the best coaches in the league at developing corners. Hated when we traded him, cuz he was just behind Pat and Trav as far as favorite current players. I told myself when he signed his second contract with KC I was buying his jersey. But in hindsight it was the right move.
