Obviously, this is stupid, but schools in a way have to exercise extreme prejudice over this kind of thing or they'll get sued like crazy right?
I mean, what if these special ed kids really did stab and hang the other student? The school would get sued into oblivion for not taking action. Or the other kid's parents might try to make a quick buck and sue these other kids for intimidation, emotional distress or some other ridiculous grounds. (being cumbersome with legal terminology here but you get the point)
Yeah, this is dumb, but the school has to protect itself from the ridiculous legal liabilities that exist today. I probably would have reported it if I had been the principal... not had them hauled off in cuffs, but I would have reported it, both to protect myself and to have someone find out if there really was a danger.
